Rainy weekdays are perfect the perfect setting for gigs like this, so I was unpleasantly surprised to walk in Rodeo club and be able to count 15 people waiting for this gig! Thankfully by the time the support band went on, the count of the heroic punters went up to around 40. Greek indie band T.E.N.S did their job, warming up the audience with their quirky tunes and providing some entertainment, by inadvertently going Pete Townshend on a poor synth! On to the main course, everyone who was wondering how Vibravoid could recreate their recorded sound live, got their answer when a Star Trek bridge worth of guitar pedals were mounted onstage. Dressed in matching Swirly shirts, Vibravoid kicked in with the Beatles' Tomorrow Never Knows and unfazed by the lack of a crowd, they gave us a professional yet entertaining set, mainly with songs from their latest albums, plus some choice covers. Going into extended jams, the guitar bleeped, chirped and fedback, all the way through their Psy-Kraut by the way of the Spacemen 3 set, while the rhythm section managed to keep it all together. The gig wrapped up with a classic rendition of Can's Mother Sky, which could lead even the straightest of the punters in some altered states!!! Unfortunately, due to the club's space, we couldn't get the full Vibravoid visual experience, but anyway, kudos to the sound guy, who managed to keep the Vibravoid insanity in control, especially when bigger venues can't produce such a good sound, and finally a tip of the hat to the Gew Gaw people who set up this gig! So, all those who missed this gig, can read this and weep!
