How was your tour? Where did you play? Any fun stories?
S: It was so great being in Spain and Portugal. People were fun although they were few during the week (between 10 and 25 persons per gig except on week ends). Moreover it was good for us to be together all this week, we made a lot of jokes... The greatest one was maybe the gig in Madrid where we have played without the singer, ill and alone in his hotel room!
A : Very good, but with Gripe A and fever around 40°C for some of us! All the places we played were great. We have passed very close to death on a little road in the Andalousian mountains, day 2!
F : The tour oscillated between grandiose and mediocre, like the rest of our production. We have played in Almeria, Albacete, Madrid and we have turned to the left!
Tell us about your new album.
S : Already a classic! Ten track cd or record, two cover designs. Great job by Nicus from LES TERRIBLES for the sound. We are very proud of this record.
F : That's a fucking record, to enjoy people who love great things and a good definition of bad taste for the others...
Why did you choose to release it on two different labels?
S : It's not really a choice. Groovie Records and Green Cookie were the only two labels interested in releasing our album, the first in vinyl only, the second in CD only. Good deal for them and for us, we have said "Bingo!"
F: A old man told me on the Chinese wall, when I was a child: "If you can't have a big one, choose two small ones!"
How did you get in touch with Green Cookie?
S : Via Myspace, we sent them a mail, their answered "yes" and now we're big in Greece!
F: A dark story of giant Moussaka, Turkish restroom and Armenian genocide.
Why did you choose to sing in French?
S : It was three years ago, when we discovered two things: first, the French beat scene of the 60's, anti yéyé, LES PROBLEMES, LES 5 GENTLEMEN... We said why not us! It was a good way to be different from the rest of the garage scene. Then we discovered that François sang better in French than in English.
A: You know what? We are very bad at English language! Moreover, we do lots of play on words in the language of Molière. It makes people who understand laugh, we love them!
F : It is made to be studied by linguists and not to please girls !
Who writes your lyrics? Are they based on true stories?
S : Especially François, sometimes Antoine, like Sexe à Pile. Some of those are true stories like London Eye, it is based on our first trip together in London. "le vieux bab’ en pantalon de lin" is a real man!
F: Lyrics are written with 2,4,6 or 8 hands, it depends on the inspiration. We are trying to describe a French sociology of real. Like a Ray Davis exchanging his ace of spades in a Hanoi saloon with a dying Guy Debord.
A : We are trying to realize the perfect mix between BALZAC, PIERRE DESPROGES, MICHEL HOUELLEBECQ and JACQUE DUTRONC.
On your LP you thank among others, Bo Diddley, George Gershwin and Antonin Artaud. Why it that?
A : Bo Diddley inspirated us a song. Artaud is a great playwriter and Gershwin has done a great cover of our song Estivante on his last release!
What are you listening to these days?
S : Only 80's bullshit, Feelies, Au Pairs, Monochrome Set, Spacemen 3, some things of 2000, Electrelane , A Place to bury strangers, Crystal Stilts.
A : OS HAXIXINS, MUSIC MACHINE, Northern soul, THE SMITHS, PORTUGUESE NUGGETS, CHUCK WOOD, GAINSBOURG, VASELINES...
Are you fans of 60's French culture, like cinema and YeYe?
S : Oeuf Corse, when I was a child, my mother had some tapes with yéyé songs, Salut les Copains, it's very usual for us in France. I listened to Ronnie Bird when I was ten! Concerning the movies, in college, when we formed the band, I began to watch some Godard, Truffaut, Chabrol movies and after, when we were hairier Eustache, Rhomer, Rivette...
A : Absolutely, I really dig NOUVELLE VAGUE, ROHMER, EUSTACHE, GODARD, Structuralist intellectuals, GUY DEBORD, like every literature student of my age! I’m not really into yéyé stuff, I prefer strange and freaky stuff from Quebec, the beautiful losers, the second division, like JEAN-PIERRE KALFON, ILS SONT FOUS CES GAULOIS, LES HOU-LOPS, NOEL DESCHAMPS, PELOQUIN & SAUVAGEAU, CLOTILDE, STELLA, JEAN-BERNARD DE LIBREVILLE
Anything else you'd like to add?
A : Yeah, we really would like to come and play in Greece….
