Tell us about your new record.
Our new record Unpleasantly Yours has been recorded this past summer
in our garage and came out both in vinyl and Cd version for the indie
label For Monsters Records. It's already have been positively reviewed
in the main national indie magazines and we're satisfied enough for
now.
Why did you record in your garage? How did you do that?
The main reason we recorded all our records in the reharsale garage is that in Sardinia there isn't a recording studio that would fit with
our sound (or better, anyone that could do it in a good way). Even if
is not perfect, as quality is pretty close to our real live sound, we
recorded it with our gear and with a four tracks analogue recorder. We
know there are some specialised vintage studios around Europe, but
maybe we are more into "budget rock" attitude!
You have some Italian and Swedish gigs planned for the next few
months. Are you excited? Are you planning more dates, or a tour maybe?
Yeah, we're pretty excited, especially playing in Sweden! Besides
we'll come back in London for this March for the third time, and are
arranging for some more short trips around Europe (our jobs don't
allow us to stay a lot of days on tour, so we decided to leave more
often by plane with cheap flights even if for two or three gigs in the
week ends).
How did you hook up with For Monsters Records?
Roberto Vallebona the boss is a long time friend and Pigi has been
related with his previous band since the beginning of the label. He
really appreciates the band's works and we are glad to record for him.
What are you listening to these days?
Lots of stuff as usual, surf comps, garage punk and some italian swing(do you know Renato Carosone and Fred Buscaglione?)
On your record you play some obscure covers. How did you choose
those songs and what else you like to cover live?
Usually Pigi choose covers to play, we also use to play live lots of
covers, to name some new, Space Express by the Savage, a Japanese surf/garage band, What I'm Gonna Do by the Vydels, War of the Worlds
by the Atlantics, Trick bag by the Artesians and so on. As you can see
a good mix of instrumental surf and garage punk.
You must be fans of vintage instruments. Are you collectors and do
you think vintage instruments are important for your sound?
We're not properly collectors, but as we're long time musicians we got lots of instruments that we bought in these years. We are into vintage instruments but also into good reissues.
What do you think of the Italian Garage scene? Do you think that
interest in Garage has declined a bit?
Concerning Italy we can tell that there are a lot of good bands, only
in our town we can count six or seven more garage bands. The problem
is that live clubs are missing but we can refer only for our island
just because we don't live the italian mainland happenings. Anyway
Italy has great events such as Festival Beat, Surferjoe Summer
Festival, Teen age Attack, and here in Sardinia the Prickly PeaBowls
(where also the Mummies played this past June).
What will you ask Santa for 2010?
A brand new car, playin the guitar, a cute little honey and lots of money ;)
Anything else you'd like to add?
Please buy our new record!!! And thanks for the interview, hope to
come and play in Greece some day.
