What's new with the Revellions? Is a second album on the works?
Well we've just got back from our European tour. That was a lot of fun! We were all over the continent this summer actually. Kind of depressing to be home!
The second album is in the works. We should be going into the studio early in the new year so thats something to look forward to!
Your debut album has been met with great enthusiasm from the music press. Did you expect that? Does it put more pressure on you for the future?
We knew the album was good but we never expected the feedback that we
have been getting from the press. it's been amazing .We're really happy with it.
I wouldn't say that it's putting pressure on us for the future.........I would say that it is motivating us to make an even better record this time!
How did you choose Dirty Water Records for your label?
We've always had a good relationship with the crew at Dirty Water from playing the club in London. They're really nice guys. They just seemed like the natural option to go with for the record. They really wanted to put it out for us aswell so thats always a plus!
What was your experience in Circo Perrotti studio like? Is an all analogue sound important to the Revellions?
I think analogue sound is important to every band to be honest! Cirrco Perrotti is great. We loved working with Jorge and Mike. They've got lots of really good ideas and they're very easy to work with.....especially on the long sessions. Gijon is a cool place to stay aswell. Jorge knows all the best bars and restaurants if you need
a bit of a distraction from the studio for a night!
We are near the second decade of the 21st century, and Garage punk is getting 45 years old. Is it crazy to keep playing this kind of music and using vintage guitars and organs, when people use software amplifiers and laptops to perform?
I don't think it's crazy to keep playing the kind of music that turns
us on. The one criticism I would have about the garage scene is that it might be a little bit over specialised. I think what we would like to achieve is to open garage music up to a broader audience. And why not! it's raw, it's sexy, it's everything music should be.They can keep their laptops and software. We'll keep using our Vintage guitars organs and amps because they sound better!.....bottom line!
In which setting do the Revellions feel more at home, live, rehearsal or recording?
LIVE LIVE LIVE. Come see one of our shows and you'll understand!
Can you describe a typical Revellions gig?
Sorry......you'll just have to come and see us for yourself.
Your name sounds like a mock word made of rebellion and revelation, is that true? Is playing Garage Punk nowdays a form of rebellion?
Actually we named the band after the instrumental tune "Revellion" by
The Sentinals.
What is the scene in Dublin like? Are there new bands, cool clubs and gig venues?
To be honest a lot of our cool venues got hit pretty hard by the recession. There were 4 or 5 really cool venues and clubs open around a a year ago like Sassy Sues GoGo Inevitable, Voodoo, Dorans, Carnival, The amsterdam Beat Club but they all went under in the last 12 months.
It's a pity. Hopefully thay should all open up again soon.
What are you listening to these days?
The Dirtbombs, The Black Lips, Spenser Davis Group,The Miracle Workers, The Animals, ABC....gulp!
What do the Revellions do when not playing with the band? Do you have dayjobs, and how easy it is for a new band to make a living in a non NME endorsed scene?
Some of us have day jobs and the rest of us are waiting for this music gig to start paying off! It is very hard to make a living, as you mentioned, in a non NME endorsed scene but at least we get to travel a lot with the band! If I wasn't in a band I'd probably spend all my wages on travelling to see the bands we get to play with now anyway!
Last year you did a live session for BBC. How did this happen, and what did it go? Is this session going to be released?
We were contacted by Mark Lamarr to do the sessions for his show "Gods Jukebox".I think he saw us at a show at The Dirty Water Club. I'm not too sure if we're planning on releasing it just yet.Not until we release the second album anyway. We might use the songs as B sides for
a single or something!
The music industry is moaning about losing profits due to the internet, but some people believe that indie labels and bands have actually benefited by it? Do you believe that the internet in the form of Myspace, filesharing etc has changed the way the industry works?
It has completely changed the way the industry works. The internet is
a fantastic medium to distribute your music and get the word out about your band.It has definately benefited the indie labels and bands. At the end of the day the true music fans will still buy the records and
bands will always make money if they are good.
